about immigrEATS
Playing on the idea of Canada as a cultural mosaic, I rather see Canada as a cultural potluck, where people from around the world come here and bring with them their food, their culture, and their love. By sharing these dishes with the communities they resettle in, immigrants have transformed Canada’s culinary scene into a vibrant, diverse, and delicious landscape. The purpose of immigrEATS is to showcase the stories of these immigrant restaurateurs, and give you some food for thought about the people behind the meals that you know and love.
The immigrEATS project began as part of Carleton University’s Research Opportunity Program, which gives undergraduate students the chance to design their own summer research project under the supervision of a faculty member. With the guidance of Dr. Laura Madokoro, this project was initially completed in August 2024, but the immigrEATS food blog was able to continue with support from the Department of Migration and Diaspora Studies at Carleton University.
